The Clash - "White Riot"
The Jam - "In the City"
SLF - "Suspect Device"
The Ramones - "Blitzkrieg Bop"
The Pistols - "Anarchy in the UK"

I almost added "The Saints are Coming" but remembered that was actually their second single.
Yeah "Charles" ep was first then "Sweet Suburbia". "The Saints Are Coming" was part of the "Wide Open ep" so it's actually their third single.
Ah, i forgot about the ep too! It's just as good imo, Test Tube Babies is excellent.
Agree really great 3 tracks.

5. Tenpole Tudor - Who Killed Bambi?
4. The Nips - Kimg of the Bop
3. Skids - Sweet Suburbia
2. Boomtown Rats - Lookin after No.1
1. Clash - White Riot

*Not sure was Who Killed Bambi? double A side with Silly Thing or what the exact arrangement was!
The version that appeared on the "Swindle" album was released as the B-side to "Silly Thing" as Sex Pistols featuring Ten Pole Tudor.
It was later released in 1981 as an A-side (though a different 1st take from the same session) as Ten Pole Tudor with Sex Pistols with Rock Around the Clock as the B-side. So that would technically be Ten Pole Tudors first single. The reality was though that "Who Killed Bambi?" Should've been released as Sex Pistols featuring Edward Tudor-Pole but McLaren changed the name.

The first genuine Tenpole Tudor single as a stand alone band was "Real Fun" released on Korova records in 1980.
Ah, got it! On the uk charts site, it gives impression it's a double A side thing, so i was genuinely confused. If it wasn't valid, I'd have gone instead with Altered Images - Dead Pop Stars which, despite their subsequent output, is a pure punk gem imho.
"Dead Pop Stars" is excellent. Altered Images are just releasing a new album which is said to be "indie disco". Bernard Butler ex Suede is the guitarist and Bobby Bluebell is also in the band.
Genuinely intrigued by that. Never minded their poppy stuff all that much, some of it's quite pleasant, but the earlier gritty stuff was in a different league entirely for me.
Hello,

There's a new Altered Images album out today:

Also wasn't "An Ideal for Living" ep the debut single from Joy Division. That makes "Transmission" their second release.

Do ep's count as singles? Unless Side A only has one song on it, should it be considered a single?

All ep's have a lead off track that gets radio airplay. That's the (single) track being promoted. Cost of Living ep "I Fought the Law". A single can have more than one track each side. Ep just means extended play. So the band are giving you more for your money. A single being defined either by a 7" or 12" which can also be an ep.

Perhaps I'm just a traditionalist in seeing the model of the 7" format, with one song on each side, as the single. To use your example, there was "I Fought the Law" off Cost of Living, but there was also a 7" of it, with one song per side. To me, the latter is the single. The ep or mini-lp is the middle child between the single and the album. It all got muddled when cd singles came along that had as many songs as an ep, as well as the alternative 12" single for (mainly) dance music, but, yeah, I'm a traditionalist in seeing a distinction between single and ep. Not enough to end a friendship over, but you know. ;)

(Maybe we need a Hespoll for the question.)

The "Cost of Living" ep was released as a 4 track single here in the UK. Other territories have one track per side. I know which I prefer. I don't relate to a 7" single only having a "single" track per side. The single to me is a piece of 7" vinyl. Then latter as become popular as a 12" single. A mini LP is usually a 6 track affair.

Many 7" singles released especially in the punk/new era had 1 track as an A-side and 2 tracks as B-sides. Yet don't get listed as ep's.

I think of ep's as a 4 track affair with 2 track per side. But the idea with all ep's or single sided 7"s is the lead off side A track is used as the main promotion tool. Not always promoting a current long player. Of course you can find exceptions to this.

As to a Hespoll I would prefer to listen to a dog taking a shit.
