I either don't remember threads or remember that they were 2-3 years ago and find out they were ten years ago.

Sometimes when I see my really old posts, I think, "Damn, that was pretty clever; no way I could pull that off now."

I do that a lot. Or I think, "yeesh, I was awful back then."

Yeah, I regret a lot of my behaviour back then. Way too often unnecessarily mean-spirited and privileging my amusement over how others might have been affected. I remember Gene telling me he was stepping away because he didn't like how easily he indulged his darker impulses here. It was an observation that made me question my own conduct. Work in progress and all that, but I think I'm a lot more self-aware about those things.

My mother, being Dutch, passed on a certain bluntness that can come off as hurtful. I've worked hard to silence that voice. Dutch bluntness is wonderful when you just want someone to get to the point, but it can ignore that the person at the other end has feelings.
