I’ve wondered for awhile whether we have a mouse/mice because every so often both we and the cats seem to think there’s something in the walls. There’s no other evidence for it, and if a mouse showed up on the main floor two of our cats are solid killers. But I decided I should get a trap, much as I was squeamish about it. I found one online that is supposedly more humane—it delivers an electrical shock for instant death—and decided, okay, no suffering. Went out to the hardware store and went to the pest control section, and winced at the products proudly announcing “kill” and “death” and got weirded out, just couldn’t do it. I know, I know, but that’s how I am w/r/t killing. But then I saw some kind of hypersonic doohickey that supposedly emits a painful sound that only rodents can hear. I have no idea whether it works, but I saw it as an escape hatch and snapped it up. We’ll see if anything happens or doesn’t (of course, if there were no mice, who know if it works), but I avoided a kill device for now.
Try this and let us know how it goes:

Damn, that's a lot of rodents in that wall.

Hello,

The only problem would be if the snake caught and ate a mouse, the snake wouldn't fit through the hole to exit.

Maybe you just haven't texted with the right person yet.

It's my preferred method of communication because I loathe speaking on the phone. Gimme the info I need quick, I don't want to deal with us talking over each other because we can't take visual cues that you'd normally have in conversation. "Oh you go," "no, you go."

But most of my friends don't like texting, so the upshot is basically that I don't communicate with almost anyone.

I dislike both talking and texting. Why can't we do things telepathically?

communication has all been downhill since we gave up on carrier pigeons

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

Yeah, I'm more or less with you. I much prefer text/email if it can't be face-to-face conversation. Never been a phone person. When I'm forced to talk on the phone, I wander all around—that's my discomfort at work, even with people I like talking to. Just don't like the action.

I also hate email because people consistently take months to reply.

You need to email me. I can't stand anything in my Inbox. It's like being in debt or something.

Hello,

I always (well, pretty much always) respond to email quickly. To not do so is rude and unprofessional.

That's my view. That said, The Boss is a department chair and also a liaison with the university administration, so her Inbox is always full. I've chastised her for it in the past and she explained (very persuasively) that she couldn't get much accomplished if she prioritized email response. So, yeah, I grumble when I don't get a quick reply, but I have learned to consider the circumstances of the other person. But, like, when it's a student who waits 48 hours before replying, yeah, I got a problem with that.

Hello,

Sometimes I'll use the "I am extremely busy at this time of year. Please allow me additional time to respond.".
