What I often read from his defenders—not the ones that think he's innocent—is that, yeah, he's guilty but all politicians are guilty of worse, so it's unfair that he's being singled out. Hey, I don't have a problem with going after more political figures, so let's start with this one, not ignore something so obvious.matedog wrote: ↑31 Mar 2023, 1:09amI was listening to a podcast recently that said the times this has been successful in modern democracies was when the indictments/crimes just kept piling up and slowly eroded the public. Part of my hunch (okay, hope is probably more accurate) is that a lack of outrage and protest will shatter the belief that Trump holds his followers under a spell, and that will break the spell he has over the media.
But, hell, I'll take him having a heart attack on the toilet.

This is intriguing. If a judge issued Trump et al a gag order, could he still resist not whining and threatening? And if so, would a judge haul him in over that?

Compare that to expressions of devotion to Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler, or Mao. Or Jim Jones or Sun Myung Moon. Yeah, totally not a cult.

I saw that too. "Well we'll go after democrats now!" Cool, though they'll probably go after Obama for falsifying his birth certificate and not like war crimes.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑31 Mar 2023, 6:31amWhat I often read from his defenders—not the ones that think he's innocent—is that, yeah, he's guilty but all politicians are guilty of worse, so it's unfair that he's being singled out. Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

You know, I was hoping for a massive coronary, but I think I prefer this. This will make him less of a martyr.
