Starting your post-secondary life off right …

So, I heard this story from someone I know in administration. It's residence move-in week. A first-year and her mother show up to the girl's residence on Wednesday; her roommate hadn't arrived yet—she was coming this weekend. For unknown reasons, mom decides she's going to stay and claims the roommate's room. Other residents are confused why this older woman is in the hallways, using communal space like she lives there. Roommate arrives and mom declares, no, you're a party girl and you can't live with my daughter. Indeed, my daughter needs to have the unit all for herself. Security is called and mom is given a trespass order, meaning she has to leave campus. She takes her daughter with her. Oh, mom also physically assaulted some residence officials on the way out. Remarkably, the university tries to move the daughter to a different unit or building, all of which mom vetoes. Next day, they're back on campus, again demanding the roommate be removed and the unit be for her daughter alone. Then dad shows up to play peacemaker and mom assaults him. Mom is again removed from campus (maybe she's with dad?). Not sure about the current whereabouts of the daughter, but it's expected that mom will be back in the building tomorrow because she seems a pretty dedicated parent.

At this point, the daughter should just pack it up for the term and go back to whatever town she came from. She can't stay in that residence because she'll be marked as a freak by everyone in the building, and her roommate is well within her rights to say she doesn't feel safe to share a space with her. And all this happens before classes even start!
