I chose to give up on material items and only collect digital now. I’ve still a few items to dispose of. Magazines, when scanned, bottles Cds and some LPs. I’ll take the 7” records to disposal site if they have no value.

However, there’s something magical about tactile nature of objects , and of course there is a permanence to them. Though not every LP is a Jamie Reid either.

Last week I got rid of all my CD cases (400) for plastic wallets. With my eyesight suffering age, I really struggled to see the replicated downsized artwork where the back of the CD had track listing in 5pt type!

Vinyl covers were and are a thing of substance. Even CDS with proper inlays of interest.

Some CD covers were paper thin, of little merit, slips only, and there seemed little of interest.

Anyway, with new clear acrylic trays, condensed, they can now sit on my bookshelf and be flicked through more easily like records in an olde record shop were. I’m not sure if I truly have resuscitated the curiosity factor but I’ve got rid of 50% bulk and weight of plastic trays.

As a former footnote I was sad to lose the odd specific external sticker altering to the release. I consoled myself with the belief that they are all on sale on eBay for 99p!

I do enjoy digital though. Things, if indexed! are much easier to locate and enjoyable fire their content.
