Thank you for doing this. I'm a terrible canvasser, but I always volunteer to make phone calls. Will be doing it for Amendment 3, our abortion amendment.WestwayKid wrote: ↑26 Aug 2024, 9:51amI knocked on over 100 doors this weekend... and I have nearly 150 in since I started canvassing. It feels good to be out doing something.
It's actually a cool process. You have an app on your phone to which you download a walk list. The walk list is made up of likely voters in a given neighborhood, so you do not go to every house. If someone answers the door, there is a script to follow on the app, though most of us develop our own shorter version. The key data to gather is (obviously) are they planning on supporting Harris and down ticket Democrats in November. Their answers help refine the list. If someone says they cannot stand Kamala Harris, they're dropped from future lists. If someone is a strong supporter, they likely won't get visited again until the days before the election to make sure they actually get out and vote. The undecided will likely get another visit down the road.
The Dems have a solid structure for keeping all this moving. The national party assigns organizers to the state party, who then further assigns them to the county parties. They're mostly young, recent college grads for the most part, but enthusiastic and smart.
I had a mix of neighborhoods. The ones on the southside of Milwaukee were more working class and more diverse and for the most part everyone I spoke to was friendly. I had a few in more suburban areas and while nobody was outright unfriendly, I had a few who made it very well known that they were not on our side.
Also, you don't go out alone anymore. If you don't have someone to go with you, they will pair you up.
We're not going this weekend because of Labor Day, but after that - it's every weekend until the election.

Yes, great work WWK. I have a friend who has been going to Georgia the past few election cycles doing this. Your work is admirable.

Kamala took her Mexican cousin to a Bad Religion concert in San Francisco. Translated excerpt:
https://efe.com/mundo/2024-08-24/kamala ... -mexicana/Newly arrived in the city, her cousin and aunt were fundamental to her integration. The vice president took her shopping, to concerts and also to demonstrations, which meant for her - who had resided most of her life outside the United States - a political awakening.
One of the anecdotes that Balachandran Orihuela remembers fondly is how the vice president took her to her first punk-rock concert, by the band Bad Religion, in San Francisco.

Speculative powermove: Trump kicks Vance to the curb and picks RFK Jr. as his running mate. He dumps the beard guy everyone hates and gets the Kennedy name attached to his campaign. He's definitely thought this, right? And gotten pissed off at the people who have told him that ain't happening.

Vance isn't going to get replaced because it would require trump to admit he made a mistake picking him. trump discards people who are no longer useful to him, but there's usually a pretext that deflects (in his mind) blame from him. This would be pure admission of failure on trump's part.

Re: The *ugh* 2024 US Election Thread
Trump would go with the narrative that he gave Vance every chance and but he just didn't do it. He blew his opportunity after everything Trump did for him. Vance failed him. Officially, tho, they'd cook up some nonsense that the media was making it so unfair and Vance didn't want to be a distraction, so for the good of America and Christendom, he withdrew.Flex wrote: ↑28 Aug 2024, 5:20pmVance isn't going to get replaced because it would require trump to admit he made a mistake picking him. trump discards people who are no longer useful to him, but there's usually a pretext that deflects (in his mind) blame from him. (Not that this is happening.)
