I've got both the UK and Japanese singles box sets and can confirm the mastering is identical on both.

The Japanese editions often had better masterings in the past. But not in the case of the singles box sets.

Not sure why the UK version didn’t have the advert. I am programmed to expect to hear it after years of playing the original vinyl!

I'm not sure either. As it's taken from vinyl just like the Radio Clash 12".

I have the original 7" EP import (UK to USA) and the advert is the last track after "Capital Radio".

Interesting info, thanks Marky. Weird that the Japanese still went to the effort of adding the advert, to the point of sourcing it from vinyl. It's still the only (official) release of that track on CD, I think.

I had the UK version of the box set and 'upgraded' to the Japanese version. Note to obsessives, the Japanese packaging is better - the singles sleeves have the correct retro construction with the paper flaps folded on the outside (gasp!) And you get the freebie stickers reproduced in miniature (swoon!), and extra reprints of the Japanese singles sleeves (Nurse, the smeiing salts...)

I wonder if the vinyl version of the box set got it right and kept the advert? According to the comments on discogs (and the scans there prove it) they messed up the labels on the CoL EP - they have 'Gates Of The West' printed as the last track on both sides.

Yep I had the vinyl versions and sold them. But can confirm that's true regards GotW.

The Japanese cd box is slightly bigger and the logos etc different on the side of the box. The addition of the Japanese sleeves and stickers is nice to have.

The advert I already had on bootleg cd.

@JohnS: Yes, The Singles Box Set Japan edition is the only official release (on CD) that has "The Cost of Living Advert".....
