I don't get Queen. I don't think I've ever heard more than 3 songs that I like.

Take That, Coldplay and Oasis in the top ten. IN THE TOP TEN! I understand your anger.

Manufactured girl band. To be fair they had a good team of songwriters behind them but still a wtf moment.

It's radio 2 mate, it means fuck all thankfully...it just confirms that the majority of people in this country still have no taste and most likely never will...

That doesn't seem too bad for a mainstream list. But yeah, I've never heard of Girls Aloud and I know of ELO, but I don't think I've ever heard and ELO song.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Mr. Blue Sky has over a billion listens on Spotify and it does not ring any bells for me. Oh, I know "Don't Bring Me Down." Good drum sound on that one. Oh, "Livin' Thing" is at the end of Boogie Nights. So I guess I know some ELO, but just barely.

"Sound of the Underground" is pretty good. I'm surprised they didn't try to push it in the States.

The whole point of "best" lists is to irritate and enrage. They aren't thought-provoking, they're meant to jab at the emotions.
I promise you, Jack Kennedy would have loved Steely Dan. He was that kind of degenerate. - Richard Nixon to Manolo Sanchez, 31 December 1973

Sex Pistols
Small Faces
The Specials
T. Rex
Slade

Just too many missing to take the list seriously.
Girls Aloud but no Bananarama who have been the most successful girl band hits wise.

Do you know Changing Man by Weller?

That's a lot of cello. Don't know this one.

These mainstream 'best' polls inevitably match sales, at least for the top ten. And radio two is as mainstream as it gets. No love for big sellers like Dire Straits, Human League or Def Leppard.

These lists are subjective, so pinch of salt always required.

I will admit to liking Queen, as does Laxgirl, who watched Bohemian Rhapsody multiple times. The box set of Queen 1 is good fun (I haven't bought it, just been listening to it on Amazon Music).

I will also put a shout out to Girls Aloud. Sarah Harding, who very sadly passed away, was from my neck of the woods, went to school with some of my (now grown up) lacrosse juniors.
